São Bento Railway Station
At the entrance of this prize award train station, you will see two inscriptions: Douro and Minho, the two most important rivers in the northern part of Portugal. But its because of the 20,000 tiles that this train station is famous for.
It is the main avenue and it is located in the centre of the city. What makes this avenue so emblematic are its buildings, which besides being important for the history of Porto, have a magnificent architecture. At the top of the avenue you can find the main building of the city hall.
Clérigos Church and Tower
Built in the XVIII century and on an uneven street, Nicolau Nasoni made a remarkable piece of architecture. Its tower served several purposes and nowadays its climbed by thousands of visitors to admire the 360º views over the city.
Considered as one of the most beautiful bookstores in the world, it maintains the characteristics since it open to the public in 1906. The colourful neo-Gothic façade is what calls for our attention with representations of arts and science, but it is the interior that surprises everyone.
Cândido dos Reis and Galerias Paris streets
These two streets opened in the early years of the XX century and was known because of the fabric warehouses. In the 1990s the fabric trade market declined, and this area lost its attraction. Later in 2007, with the opening of a bar in an old bookstore began to come alive again.
Situated on the right banks of the Douro River, if you follow its stream, Ribeira is one of the oldest and most important neighbourhoods of the city. A frenetic place full of people enjoying the landscape and all the entertainment, it is a place of good restaurants and beautiful terraces.
