We believe that the best way to discover our culture is through our food and wines while seated around at a table. Sharing stories, learning about our history, enjoying our local delicacies, and tasting the best wines produced in our region.

Join us in a walking tour through the old town where you will discover the most authentic taverns, get in touch with the saleswomen of our traditional market, and feel like a local.

In this experience our storytelling guide will take you from taverns to traditional grocery stores to show you the most authentic local “petiscos” always accompanied by a local drink. At the end of it you will understand the historical background of our gastronomy and wine culture, and ultimately, why we love food so much.

Custard Tart (Pastel de Nata)

This is one of the most popular and traditional sweets of Portuguese pastry. It is part of the country’s culture; the original recipe was created by the monks of the Jerónimos Monastery and it is believed that its recipe remains a secret. Nothing better to accompany this sweet than a Special blend coffee.

Cod Fish Cake (Pastel de Bacalhau)

A specialty of the Portuguese cuisine and a glass of Vinho Verde which is made exclusively in a region located in the north-west of Portugal, and Galiza. There is no other place in the world that can produce Vinho Verde, due to the importance and geographic uniqueness of the region.

Charcuterie board

Portugal is a country with an immense tradition in the production of cheeses, from the strongest or softest. There is no perfect wedding for the Portuguese without Prosciutto (dry cured ham), cheese, smoked meats, Bread, olives, and a glass of Douro Wine.

Bifana

A traditional Portuguese pork spicy sandwich, very thin slices of meat full of flavour. Porto style is served inside a bread accompanied by a typical beer nicknamed by the Portuenses of “fino”.

Port Wine

It is a liqueur wine, produced in the Demarcated Wine Region of Douro, under peculiar conditions derived from natural and human factors. The manufacturing process, based on tradition, includes stopping the fermentation process by adding wine brandy, and ageing. Port Wines can be divided into different categories: Ruby Style, Tawny Style, White and Rosé. On this tour you can try 3 different types of Port.

TOUR HIGHLIGHTS

Santa Catarina

Santa Catarina Street is the most important shopping area of Porto. This pedestrian-only street is filled with shops, street vendors, restaurants, and coffee shops. This street is one of the most popular among the residents to shop.

Rua Passos Manuel

This is one of the emblematic arteries of the Downtown of Porto. This is a street of bourgeois facades and culture, being in it this great institution that is the Porto Coliseum and the Porto Commercial Athenaeum

Aliados

It is the main avenue of the city of Porto. It is topped by the Porto City Hall and flanked by a line of Art Nouveau and Art Deco facades. The avenue is named after the historic alliance between England and Portugal at the end of the 14th century. Nowadays, this avenue is full of luxury brand shops.

Bolhão Market

We believe that it´s a huge fail not to visit the only traditional market of Porto. Open everyday from Monday to Saturday is where we will find the best ingredients to make the famous Francesinha, the fresh fruits and the local vegetables. And because tourism has already become a part of our city, you might find that souvenir you were looking for!
