Cycle by the old neighbourhoods of the city starting by Ribeira and Miragaia, along the river until the area of Foz, where the river meets the ocean.

You will learn why Porto is also known as “The City of Bridges” and the importance of the connection with the river and the ocean to contribute for the economic growth and prosperity. It is also a great opportunity to see the traditional and iconic Portuguese boats called “Rabelo”, that for centuries were used to transport people and goods along the Douro River.

TOUR HIGHLIGHTS

Ribeira Square

Ribeira is the most famous neighbourhood in Porto of its iconic scenery: the two-level iron bridge, the river Douro and the typical Rabelo boats and the Port Wine Cellars behind them.

Miragaia

Since the roman times, we see occupation in this particular area. Nowadays, it overlooks the Douro River from the highest areas, but in the harsh winters with heavy rains the population still deal with floods.

Alfandega Congress Center

This old Customs House that we call “Alfândega” is located on the right bank of the Douro River, specifically in the neighbourhood of Miragaia. It is currently used as a Congress and Exhibition Centre having won already some travel awards.

Arrábida Bridge

The design of the Arrábida Bridge was quite daring due to its upper deck sitting on a long arch made of reinforced concrete. It passes the main highway connecting Porto to Vila Nova de Gaia in the direction of Lisbon.

São Pedro da Afurada

By looking across the river and you will see a small fishing village located in the city of Gaia. It is well known for its fresh fish restaurants and the kindness and simplicity of the local people.

Calem Garden

This small garden located almost at the mouth of the river Douro, offers to those who pass here, magnificent views of the river. It is also known for its birdwatching observatory as well as a monument related to the Ceuta expedition in 1415.
